PHILADELPHIA (July 17, 2023) – Verified Voting, a leading national organization whose mission is to strengthen democracy for all voters by promoting the responsible use of technology in elections, is honored to welcome voting rights champions, Allegra Chapman and Bertrall Ross, to its Board of Directors. Chapman consults for social justice, voting rights, and political organizations on strategies to build bridges between communities, enhance electoral and political participation to heal divides. Ross is the Thurgood Marshall Distinguished Professor of Law at the University of Virginia Law School where he teaches and writes in the areas of constitutional law, constitutional theory, election law, administrative law and statutory interpretation.

Chapman is a former civil rights and voting rights litigator. Her career has spanned across sectors, including government, private and nonprofit entities. Chapman has worked with notable institutes such as the New York State Attorney General, Civil Rights Bureau, Lansner & Kubitschek, Dēmos and Common Cause. She is Board Chair for the 100% Democracy Initiative. She holds a B.A. in Philosophy from McGill University and a J.D. from Emory Law School. Read her full biography here.

Ross is the director of the Karsh Center for Law and Democracy and the Justice Thurgood Marshall Distinguished Professor of Law. Ross’ research focuses on democratic responsiveness and accountability, as well as the inclusion of marginalized communities in administrative and political processes. Ross is currently serving as a member of the University of California, Irvine School of Law’’s Fair Elections and Free Speech Center, as well as acting as Chair of the Rulemaking Committee for the Administrative Conference of the United States. He previously served on President Joseph Biden’s Commission on the Supreme Court. He holds a B.A. in International Affairs and a B.A. in History from the University of Colorado Boulder, an M.S.c. from the London School of Economics, an M.P.A. from Princeton University and a J.D. from Yale Law School.
