Press ReleaseVerified Voting Statement

PHILADELPHIA (June 24, 2026) — In response to Georgia’s special legislative session passing legislation that delays changes to the state’s QR-code tabulation system until 2028 and expands risk-limiting audits, Verified Voting’s Strategy and Policy Director Mark Lindeman released the following statement:

“Georgia’s election officials, voters, and communities have faced months of uncertainty about the immediate future of Georgia elections. This legislation calls for moving to a new voting system in 2027, and election officials can continue to focus on running secure and fair elections this year.

“The state’s existing foundation of paper ballots and risk-limiting audits (RLAs) has helped strengthen election security and public confidence. Expanding RLAs to additional contests builds on that foundation. We also welcome that the final legislation rejected new proposals for broad pre-certification hand counts that could have introduced unnecessary disruption and operational challenges.

“Verified Voting supports Georgia’s transition toward hand-marked paper ballots, with ballot marking devices available for voters who need them. The next step is making that transition carefully with the resources, planning, and support election officials need to do it right.”
