PHILADELPHIA (November 21, 2023) — Verified Voting expresses deep disappointment in the 8th US Circuit Court of Appeals’ ruling. Disintegrating the public’s ability to ensure that the government is held accountable to the Voting Rights Act (VRA) will only erode trust in our democracy. The VRA contains essential voting rights protections for voters of color that private citizens and civil rights groups must retain the right to protect. Related federal voting rights legislation like the Freedom to Vote Act and the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act must also be considered by Congress to safeguard our elections infrastructure and give voters justified confidence in our elections.
