PHILADELPHIA (March 9, 2023) –“Verified Voting urges states not to withdraw from the Electronic Registration Information Center (ERIC). Participation in ERIC is not a political matter; at a time when disinformation is rampant, states should be pulling together to generate the most accurate and up to date voter roll information.
“ERIC is a nonpartisan, membership-based, nonprofit organization, offering a unique and important set of tools for efficient election administration. Participation in ERIC keeps voter rolls clean and prevents voter fraud by enabling election officials to know when voters move within or outside their state or identify duplicate registrations within one state. It also alerts states to eligible but unregistered voters, supporting more productive voter outreach. In the last election, more than 30 states and the District of Columbia participated in the program, which has been around for more than 10 years.
“Verified Voting’s mission is to strengthen democracy for all voters by promoting the responsible use of technology in elections — and ERIC’s track record demonstrates one such responsible use. By analyzing voter registration across states, without connecting to voter registration databases, ERIC fosters accurate, efficient voter roll maintenance and eases the administrative burden on election officials.”
