PHILADELPHIA (July 16, 2026) — In response to President Trump’s false and misleading claims about election security during his address tonight, Verified Voting President & CEO Pamela Smith released the following statement:

“Tonight’s claims are nothing more than another flimsy attempt to rewrite the past, cause chaos and sow unwarranted doubt in this year’s elections. Six years and more than 60 failed lawsuits later, there’s no new way for the president to say the 2020 election was stolen, because it wasn’t. Our elections require layers of technical safeguards: voting equipment that is tested and certified before it’s ever used, paper ballots that create a physical record of voter intent, chain-of-custody procedures for both ballots and machines, post-election audits and more.

“The resilience of our elections is thanks to local election officials from both parties in every state who continue to run safe and fair elections for the voters they serve. Election officials across the country are already hard at work preparing for November. If this administration truly cared about election integrity, it would fund and support the officials doing that work instead of relitigating an election that’s long over.

“There’s no evidence that foreign interference altered election infrastructure in 2020. Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) directors under both the Trump and Biden administrations confirmed it.”
