PHILADELPHIA (October 19, 2026) — Verified Voting, a leading national organization dedicated to strengthening democracy for all voters by promoting the responsible use of technology in elections, today announced that Matt Crane, a nationally recognized election administration expert, has joined its Board of Directors.
Crane brings 26 years of election administration and security experience at the local, state, and national levels. He has built a reputation for helping election officials strengthen operations, manage security risks, and build public trust through practical, evidence-based solutions. His work spans frontline election management and bipartisan, cross-sector collaboration on election security and resilience, and he has helped advance best practices in ballot access, voter education, and countering disinformation.
“Matt has spent his career on the front lines of election security, from helping Colorado conduct the nation’s first statewide risk-limiting audit to advising election officials nationwide in various roles,” said Barbara Simons, Board Chair of Verified Voting. “He understands what it takes to run secure elections and what the people running them need. His ability to bring local, state, and federal partners together will make him a tremendous asset to Verified Voting’s leadership.”
Crane serves as Executive Director of the Colorado County Clerks Association, the professional association representing Colorado’s county clerks and recorders. In that role, Crane oversees the association’s operations and works with clerks on legislative priorities, professional development, communications, and the challenges of administering elections. He consults with the Election Security Exchange, the Coalition of Election Association Leaders, and the League of Conservative Election Professionals, and serves as a senior advisor for the Coalition of Election Association Leaders (CEAL) project of the Election Center. Crane previously spent 19 years as a Colorado election official at the state and county levels, including serving as Clerk and Recorder of Arapahoe County.
“We are thrilled to welcome Matt to our Board,” said Pamela Smith, President & CEO of Verified Voting. “For decades, he has worked across party lines to make elections more resilient and transparent, and that work is at the heart of Verified Voting’s mission. We look forward to the perspective he brings from his time in the field with election officials.”
