Election Security Expert Warns Seized Election Materials in FBI Raid Are Now Compromised, Breaching Chain of Custody
PHILADELPHIA (January 29, 2026) — In response to yesterday’s FBI raid of the Fulton County election center, Verified Voting’s President & CEO Pamela Smith released the following statement:
“This was a heavy-handed and unprecedented federal intrusion into an election that was certified at the local, state, and federal levels years ago. By removing ballots and other election materials from their secure, locally controlled environment, the chain of custody is broken, rendering any future claims from those materials unreliable.
“Fulton County’s voters are relying on their election officials to prepare — without disruption — for a new election that is just around the corner. At the behest of the Administration, which has no role in the conduct of elections, this raid is manufacturing chaos, intimidating election workers, and sowing distrust ahead of the state’s primaries, this year’s midterms, and the 2028 presidential election.”
