PHILADELPHIA (June 9, 2021)Verified Voting, the leading national organization whose mission is to strengthen democracy for all voters by promoting the responsible use of technology in elections, is excited to name Sangita Sigdyal as its incoming President and Chief Executive Officer. Sigdyal, who most recently served as an Executive Vice President at FairVote, will lead Verified Voting’s ongoing efforts to guide elections toward greater security, verifiability, accuracy and transparency.

A seasoned nonprofit executive with twenty-plus years in the U.S. democracy and international development spaces, Sigdyal brings her expertise in U.S. electoral reform, organizational strategy development and implementation, fundraising and business management to Verified Voting.

“Sangita joins Verified Voting at a critical time and we’re confident that her executive leadership experience will continue to advance the election security best practices we’ve worked so hard to promote since our founding – voter-verified paper ballots, strong chain of custody, risk-limiting audits and support for election officials to run safe and secure elections,” said Barbara Simons, Board Chair.

“We are delighted to welcome Sangita as our incoming President and Chief Executive Officer,” said Cris Linda and Mark Lindeman, acting co-directors of Verified Voting. “This past election year demonstrated how fundamental Verified Voting’s work is for our democracy and Sangita’s passion and experience on these issues is a great asset to our organization.”

“It is an honor to join the Verified Voting team and I’m thrilled to collaborate with the Board of Directors and the talented staff around our shared goals,” said Sigdyal. “This is an important time for American democracy and I’m passionate about strengthening and protecting U.S. elections by ensuring that all votes are counted as cast. I look forward to leading Verified Voting through this next chapter as we build upon the essential work accomplished in 2020 to prepare for the 2022 midterms and beyond.”

In 2018, Sigdyal joined FairVote, a nonpartisan election reform organization, as Executive Vice President. In this role, she served as a key architect of FairVote’s four-year strategic planning process, program development, board governance, fiscal management and fundraising strategy.

Prior to joining FairVote, Sigdyal was Director of Operations and Interim COO at the Open Government Partnership (OGP), a 75-country multilateral initiative that promotes government transparency through citizen engagement. She has held a variety of executive positions, including at the World Bank, the Results Educational Fund and the Association for Conflict Resolution. Sigdyal also holds a Master’s Degree in Public Administration (MPA) from Columbia University’s School of International and Public Affairs.
